PLANT TRAINING FOR BIGGER YIELDS!

3pm – 4pm

I’ve been a long time cannabis enthusiast and procurement specialist! About 4 years ago I started growing my own cannabis and quickly found a passion for it, as well as a green thumb. With Maine’s caregiver laws being so lenient my wife, Danielle, and I decided we should try out growing medicine for other people. After that quickly took off, we expanded our operation and then started to assess other holes in the market that we could fill with a small business. We started Green Harvest Solutions, a trimming machine rental and sales company that now has customers throughout New England. My most recent project is Atlas Plant Trainer, a customizable plant training and support system designed for the home cannabis grower to maximize their limited legal plant counts.

PRELIMINARY FINDINGS FROM NATIONAL CANNABIS CONSUMER AND PATIENT SURVEY

12pm – 1pm

This presentation will cover the preliminary findings from an ongoing national cannabis consumer and patient online survey launched in June 2018 by Cannabis Community Care and Research Network (C3RN) in collaboration with the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. C3RN also partnered with three leading registered marijuana dispensaries (RMDS) in Massachusetts to participate in the study and use results to improve patient care and services. During this presentation, Dr. McNabb will present study findings and data related to common conditions patients are facing for which cannabis is being used for treatment, which symptoms they use cannabis to treat, perceived efficacy of cannabis treatments, and impacts on quality of life. Data will also be presented on cannabis use patterns of respondents, including preferred methods, time of use, consumption patterns, access, and barriers to use. Lessons learned during the pilot phase of recruitment for the study and work with partners will also be covered.

PLANNING FOR SUSTAINABILITY FROM THE START: CONSIDERATIONS FOR HYBRID GREENHOUSES IN THE NORTHEAST

1pm – 2pm

Recent regulatory changes have unleashed a wave of businesses investing in new cultivation licenses and they are investigating ways to make their facilities more sustainable both economically and environmentally. As a result, growers are looking at the successes of hybrid greenhouses to leverage natural light and advanced environmental controls to meet emerging power restrictions and stringent quality standards. Challenges to growing in the Northeast climate include: – Summers of high humidity and heat can immediately shut down flower production. – Temperature swings in the early fall lead to late season disease – Subzero temperatures and snow loads of up to eighty pounds – Supplemental lighting needs. This session will address these concerns by introducing the major components of hybrid greenhouse production in the Northeast; provide insights into the trade offs of various production strategies; and explore technologies available and their capital and operating costs. We will also explore energy input choices and their impact on production; where to start when facility design, considerations from a design and operational perspective, trade-off and choices involved in structure type, greenhouse lighting strategies, closed versus open systems and options for heating, cooling, and dehumidification. Additionally, we’ll cover how to integrate energy saving technologies and renewables into many controlled growing environments. Finally, we will survey financing options available to cannabis producers. **We would be happy to organize a panel which could be composed of other energy experts, an engineering firm, and perhaps a client who could discuss what their considerations were and how they approached designing their new facility.

BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN CANNABIS AND COMMUNITIES

4pm – 5pm

With the passing of the Medical Marijuana laws in New England it has brought about an important opportunity for local cannabis patients, advocates, and industry professionals to be the bridge between cannabis and their local communities. There is a need for communities to be educated with accurate cannabis information, rules, regulations, and basic facts. It is more important than ever that the cannabis community as a whole comes together to educate people on the efficacy of cannabis for relief. This talk outlines various approaches that municipalities and the cannabis community members can take as we continue to educate local communities on the medicinal value of cannabis.

ANCIENT WISDOM AND MODERN SCIENCE – A STORY OF FULL SPECTRUM CANNABIS INFUSIONS

1pm – 2pm

Whole plant infusion has been used by humans to make medicinal cannabis tincture for over 5000 years. That’s a significant amount of human trials for safety and efficacy. Modern lab tests indicate cannabis medicines made with this ancient technique retain more of the beneficial qualities of the cannabis plant than newly developed industrial methods. Recent research indicates the resulting full spectrum medicines offer additional relief to patients and a more complete euphoric experience for recreational users than ones made from concentrate or isolates. The story begins in ancient China, travels around the globe, and ends in modern laboratories with one question in mind: What can we learn from ancient practices and current research to ensure we best serve cannabis patients and adult users today?

HEMP OIL AND CANNABIS OIL: WHAT’S THE REAL DIFFERENCE?

2pm – 3pm

Are CBD-rich products made using Hemp Oil the same as those produced with Medical Cannabis? The short answer is no, they are not the same—but that doesn’t mean both don’t have a place in medicine. This session provides an in-depth explanation of the known differences between cannabis sativa and cannabis ruderalis oils. The botany of the plant, it’s known bio-accumulation traits, and the importance of terpenes are a few of the important differences to be discussed. Finally, an exploration of how CBD enhances THC’s painkilling and anticancer properties, while lessening the euphoria associated with cannabis sativa will be undertaken.
